Khartoum - Undersecretary of the Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Dr. Mohammed Abdel Raziq Abdul Aziz affirmed that Sudan is ready to meet the international demand of livestock.
Sudan has become a source country for cattle exports in the beginning of previous decades. Sudan cattle include heads of sheep, cows, goats and camels in large numbers. Sudan livestock not only provide a livelihood for much of the population it also contributes to GDP.
Sudanese beef is considered one of the best with excellent taste because Sudan cattle are reared in healthy conditions, conforming to international certification, and in natural grazing fed with organic food and free from any deceases such valley fever.
Sudan exports livestock to Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries, in addition to Malaysia and Brazil. An agreement was signed between Sudan and Brazil during a pervious visit of the Sudanese Animal Resources and Fishery minister, Faisal Hassan Ibrahim. They agreed to send Sudanese technicians to Brazil for training in the breeding of animals.
It worth to mentioning that Sudan exports cattle to Malaysia following an agreement by a group of Malaysian companies to import 200,000 live cattle from this year.
Cattle exports to Malaysia would help increase the volume of bilateral trade between Sudan and Malaysia probably by two-fold, said Sudanese Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Dr. Faisal Hassan Ibrahim.
Sudan also exported about 700 tons of meat to Egypt in the first quarter of 2011. The main problem that faced meat exporting process was the transportation cost for Egypt, but it was solved by opening lines in the borders between the two countries.
Sudan enjoys abundance in livestock around 120 millions of cattle it can meet the Egypt demand for meat which has reached 1,000 tons per day.
Furthermore Saudi imports great numbers Sudan castles yearly especially in Hajj season. Sudan cattle have recently been recognized to be of high quality and health.
