THE 62nd NATIONAL DAY AND THE 53rd MALAYSIA DAY 2019 HELD IN KHARTOUM, SUDAN ON 15 SEPTEMBER 2019
The Embassy of Malaysia in Khartoum celebrated the 62nd National Day and the 53rd Malaysia Day on 15 September 2019. The celebrations were attended by the Malaysian and Sudanese community which comprises of Petronas Sudan, Malaysian businessmen, students and officers and staff of the Embassy as well as their respective families including some Friends of Malaysia.
The programme began with the recital of the doa, followed by the national anthems of both countries, the speech by HE Mohamad Razdan Jamil, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Sudan. The Ambassador’s speech touched on the “importance of understanding the significance of Merdeka, why it is crucial that we as citizens should always act mature and responsibly particularly on social media as it is easy to destroy the hard work and success of a nation by sowing hate and discordant messages.
He emphasised that “Freedoms does not necessarily mean we can say what we want openly, it must come with a sense of responsibility as well as accountability”. He also alluded to the recent revolutionary movement in Sudan and highlighted the struggles that the Sudanese had to face in order to effect change. Now that change has been realised - reconciliation, patience and understanding must follow in order for sustainable peace to be achieved.
Thus, the importance of knowing history where the future generations are able to share how difficult it was to gain Merdeka/Independence peacefully. Both countries drew many parallels and have a few similarities such as having multi-faceted communities with diverse cultures and languages. In concluding, the Ambassador hopes that both Malaysia and the Sudan can share their experiences and work towards benefitting each other’s country as well as their peoples.
The programme concluded with a ‘Sajak’ recital by Muhammad Nur Mirza Nasarruddin whilst the guests enjoyed a treat of Malaysian traditional food and drinks prepared by PERWAKILAN Khartoum, the Ladies Association of the Embassy. The total number of guests that attended was approximately 70 persons.
