THE 64th NATIONAL DAY AND THE 58th MALAYSIA DAY 2021 HELD IN KHARTOUM, SUDAN ON 5 OCTOBER 2021
The Embassy of Malaysia in Khartoum celebrated the 64th National Day and the 58th Malaysia Day on 5 October 2021 at the Multipurpose Hall of the PETRONAS Sudan Complex. The celebrations were attended by the Malaysian and Sudanese community which comprises of PETRONAS Sudan, the Committee of Sudanese Malaysian People's Friendship Association (SMPFA), the Committee of Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), Diplomats from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, students and officers and staff of the Embassy as well as their respective families including several Friends of Malaysia.
Despite the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic which has caused many to have postponed/cancelled the many programmes and activities lined up last year, the Embassy felt that it would be timely to celebrate this year’s National and Malaysia Day together but at a smaller scale with the necessary SOP’s. It is important that some semblance of normalcy returns albeit under a different norm.
The programme began with the recital of the doa, followed by the national anthems of both countries, the welcoming remarks by HE Mohamad Razdan Jamil, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of the Sudan and two other speeches made by the Secretary General of the SMFPA and a representative from the MTCP Alumni Association. The Ambassador’s speech touched on the concept of “Malaysia Prihatin” and “Keluarga Malaysia” as well as Malaysia-Sudan Relations.
The Ambassador emphasized that both countries drew many parallels and have a few similarities such as having multi-faceted communities with diverse cultures and languages. In concluding, the Ambassador hopes that both Malaysia and the Sudan can share their experiences and work towards benefitting each other’s country as well as their peoples.
The programme concluded with a ‘Sajak’ recital and ‘Silat’ performance by Malaysians students as well as an ad hoc performance by the Chairperson of PERWAKILAN Khartoum, Madam Lilis Surianty Mior Aziz who sang a rendition of “Standing in the Eyes of the World” by Ella whilst the guests enjoyed a treat of Malaysian food such as satay and roti jala as well as sirap limau among others which were prepared by PERWAKILAN Khartoum, the Ladies Association of the Embassy. The total number of guests that attended was approximately 70 persons.
