UNREST IN THE REPUBLIC OF THE SUDAN
On 19 December 2018, the Government of the Republic of the Sudan declared martial law indefinitely in the district of Gaheireif following a deadly clash between security forces and protestors where 6 people were killed. The situation in Khartoum is relatively calm with isolated incidences in several districts. At present, the Embassy has advised all Malaysian students to not partake in any political gatherings and to stay away from public spaces that can jeapordise their safety such as squares and market places. If possible to stay indoors until the situation has calmed down.
Malaysians who are in Sudan are advised to abide by the rules and regulations of the local authorities and to register with the Malaysian Embassy in Khartoum.
Meanwhile, Malaysians who are planning to visit Sudan are advised to take all the necessary precautions and be aware of the security situation at all times.
The Malaysian Embassy in Khartoum is monitoring closely the current developments taking place in the Republic of the Sudan.
