On 14 July 2013, Ambassador of Malaysia to Sudan, His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Ashri Muda made a visit to Sudan Gold Refinery in Khartoum. Ambassador was received by Mr. Huassam Eldin Khalil Ali Khalil, Finance and Administrative Affairs Manager and Mr. Khalid Ibrahim, Operation Manager. Ambassador accompanied by two officials from the Embassy of Malaysia in Sudan was given a tour around the refinery. During the tour, a brief was given on the process of refining the gold using the most common method which is the high temperature flame. The refinery has a gold production capacity of 900 kilograms per day.
Sudan is boosting its production of gold and other minerals to tap new sources for the country’s revenue. Gold exports for Sudan have increased by 93% from 23,739 kilograms in 2011 to 46,123 kilograms of gold in 2012. Sudan is expected to produce 50,000 kilograms of gold in 2013. Source – Sudan Vison.
