The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, HE Dato’ Husni Zai Yaacob, hosted a reception to celebrate the 56th anniversary of Malaysia’s independence at Shangri La Hotel, Singapore on 17 September 2013. The reception was also held in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the formation of Malaysia and 80th anniversary of Malaysia Armed Forces Day.
About 500 guests from all sectors of society attended the reception; diplomats, government officials, business people from trade and commercial sectors, academicians, students and representatives from civil institution and society leaders.
Representing the Government of Singapore was Associate Professor Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communication and Information and Minister in-charge of Muslim Affairs of the Republic of Singapore. Also present were Mr Seah Kian Peng, Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and Ms Ellen Lee, Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC.
In his speech, HE High Commissioner highlighted recent events happening in Malaysia as well as noted the excellent Malaysia-Singapore bilateral relations which are at all-time high, with the two countries enjoying unprecedented level of win-win cooperation in the political, economic and strategic spheres.
In his remarks, HE Minister Yaacob Ibrahim acknowledged the current levels of cooperation and exchanges between Malaysia and Singapore. He further expressed hope for a continuous progress and stronger cooperation.
