Malaysian Garden, located in the Global Garden Area of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition was declared open at an opening ceremony held from 1330 to 1430 hrs on 10 November 2010.
The event was attended by HBS, PERWAKILAN members, LRS as well as family members of HBS. Also present were several Malaysians in Taipei and friends of MFTC.
The Petaling Jaya City Council Cultural Troupe which perform at the 2010 Malaysian Food and Culture Festival at The Grand Hotel, Taipei was specially transported to the Malaysian Garden. Their lively performances attracted more than 300 spectators who were visiting the Global Garden Area. CTI TV, a local TV station covered the launching ceremony.
Malaysia’s participation at the Global Garden Area of 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition is registered under the name of Kejuruteraan Kesenian Hua May Sdn. Bhd.
Malaysia’s participation was revoked in June 2010 due to budgetary constraints. In continuation of the effort of YBhg. Dato’ Abdullah Mohd Salleh, Former President of Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre (MFTC), an appeal was submitted to the Taipei City Government to reinstate Malaysia’s participation in July 2010 when Mr. Chuah Teong Seng (Mr. Power Chai), a Malaysian from Perak agreed to fully finance the design and construction of a Malaysian Garden.
With the support from the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre including from Mr. Lim You Rang, Acting President, Mr. Muhammad Nasir Pahmi, Director (Tourism) and Mr. Muhd Shahrulmiza Zakaria, Director (Trade), Malaysia officially become one of the 60 participating countries of the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition.
The 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition is the latest most favoured tourist spot in Taiwan. Inaugurated on 6 November 2010 will witness changes in its flora display through winter and spring seasons before it ends on 25 April 2010. The Taipei City Government estimated a total of 6 to 8 million visitors to attend the Expo, including 400,000 to 800,000 foreigners. The economic benefits of the Expo are expected to reach NT$16.8 billion.
