H.E. Datuk Ayauf Bachi, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine reflected on the state of bilateral relations and progress in bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Ukraine during an interview for the 18th Issue of the Scientific Annual Digest "Diplomatic Ukraine" on 12 April 2017.

H.E. Datuk Ayauf Bachi noted that Malaysia and Ukraine have developed friendly and warm relationship since the establishment of diplomatic ties 25 years ago on 3 March 1992. Notable cooperation is in the areas of trade, defence, infrastructure management, education and tourism. The collaboration established in the context of the recovery and investigation of the downing of Malaysia Airlines aircraft Flight MH17 in eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014 has further strengthened ties between Malaysia and Ukraine.

In moving forward, H.E. Datuk Ayauf Bachi expressed hope to see more people-to-people exchanges especially amongst Malaysian and Ukrainian students. He also hoped that the increasing trend of Ukrainian tourist arrivals to Malaysia would continue while Malaysians would start to travel to Ukraine, taking advantage of the new visa on arrival facility for Malaysians entering Ukraine.

The “Diplomatic Ukraine” is an annual foreign affairs publication by Ukraine’s State Enterprise – the Directorate General for Rendering Services to Diplomatic Missions. The publication features articles contributed by members of the diplomatic corps in Ukraine, interviews with foreign ambassadors to Ukraine as well as discussion essays on current international affairs.
