Ambassador Chuah meets Ukrainian Association of Furniture Manufacturers
Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine, H.E. Chuah Teong Ban visited Ukrainian Association of Furniture Manufacturers (UAFM) 29 May 2012. He had a fruitful meeting with Mrs. Victoriya Nesmeyan (Director of the Association) and Mr. Andrei Melnikov (Project Manager). The main interests were to understand the trends in furniture market in Ukraine, problems faced by importers especially importers of Malaysian furniture and how Malaysian side and UAFM can collaborate to resolve those issues, including customs procedures, legislations and clearance.
The Director briefed H.E. Ambassador Chuah on the functions and setup of the 126-member organization, its activities and achievements, market trends and issues with regard to dealing with customs for the calculation of VAT on furniture. In compliance with WTO rules, Ukraine does not impose tariff on furniture but for furniture components and fittings, a tax of 3 to 40 percent can be levied depending on its HS codes. H.E. Ambassador Chuah also discussed on how best to resolve the customs issues faced by importers of Malaysian furniture.
