Ambassador Chuah Visits the Capital of Ukrainian Folk Art
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine organized a cultural outreach programme for Heads of Foreign Mission to visit Dnipropetrovsk oblast from 22-23 September 2012. The objective of the visit was to promote greater awareness and understanding about the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine, in particular the unique form of traditional folk art of petrykivskii paintings which originated from the Dnipropetrovsk region, among the diplomatic community.
H.E. Mr.Chuah Teong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine found the visits to Dnipropetrovsk Natural History Museum and Dnipropetrovsk State Art Institute to be rewarding and enlightening from the historical and ethnological perspectives. The masterpieces of the folk arts were indeed national treasures, worthy for consideration to be conserved and preserved as non-tangible world cultural heritage items.
The diplomatic delegation had the opportunity to visit to Petrykivka Village, the capital of Ukrainian traditional folk art which is located some 80 km north of Dnipropetrovsk City. Each diplomat partook in making history by painting some petrykivskii ornaments and motifs onto the world’s longest mural wall of petrykivskii paintings, which measured some 120 metre long. They also participated at the annual Petrykivski Folk Art Carnival and joined the merry making.
