The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) led an Export Acceleration Mission to Kyiv on 26-27 June 2018 aimed at building on Malaysia’s existing economic links with Ukraine and boosting bilateral trade between the two countries. The mission focused on three sectors namely processed food and palm oil products; medical devices; and automotive parts and accessories. On that score, five Malaysian companies involved in those sectors participated in the trade mission with the objective of furthering their business interests and breaking into the Ukrainian market by partnering up with local importers.
Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Ukraine has shown signs of improvement in 2017 after three years of declining trend. In 2017, total trade increased to USD209.1 million from USD172.1 million in 2016; and exports increased by 19% to USD106.3 million, while imports increased by 24.1% to USD102.8.
Encouragingly, important introductions and connections were made on this Export Acceleration Mission which is hoped will be translated into the expansion of business activities and trade volume between Malaysia and Ukraine.
