H.E Mr. Chuah Teong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine hosted a luncheon on 19 March 2012 to honour Ms. Wong Poh San, a young promising Malaysian rhythmic gymnast athlete for her remarkable achievement at the prestigious Deriugina Cup held in Kyiv, Ukraine from 16 – 18 March 2012 by winning a bronze medal. Members of Malaysian community in Kyiv also joined in this celebration.

H.E. Ambassador Chuah congratulated Ms. Wong for her outstanding artistic performance that has kept Malaysian flag, Jalur Gemilang, flying high at this renowned international competition on 18 March 2012. H.E. Ambassador Chuah advised Ms. Wong to continue to train harder, be motivated, focussed and driven to attain higher accolades in the future so that Malaysian national anthem will be played at the victory podium in the major international sports arena.

Ms. Wong’s recent accomplishment, even though in third placing, can be considered as a major breakthrough for Malaysian gymnast as well as in Asian gymnast fraternity, by penetrating the stronghold  of a sports that has been traditionally dominated by former Soviet republics and European countries. Furthermore, she is the sole Asian participant among the 40 European countries and former Soviet republics at this international competition. Ms. Wong has a promising future to bring back gold medal in individual category in major international rhythmic gymnastics competitions, hopefully at the Olympic level, for Malaysia to cherish and rejoice.
