The Embassy of Malaysia in Ukraine successfully hosted the 56th National Day of Malaysia celebration on 16 October 2013 in a modest manner with Malaysian cultural atmosphere in Kyiv. The reception was special as we are celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Malaysia Day. About 250 guests comprising local dignitaries, senior officials, academics, business circles, tourist agencies and mass media, attended the reception. The diplomatic communities as usual have been supportive.
The reception commenced with the national anthems of Malaysia and Ukraine. H.E. Mr. ChuahTeong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine then gave some brief welcoming remarks. He highlighted the Malaysian success story in its nation building, the strategic transformations taken towards becoming a developed nation by 2020, and the significant of the 50th Anniversary of MalaysiaDay. Progress in the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Ukraine was also touched upon.
A special cultural project involving the transformation of traditional Malaysian Batik fabric into stylistic and fashionable modern dresses by three young and talented Ukrainian fashion designers were also on display. Their masterpieces which feature a harmonious blend of Malaysian identity with Ukrainian fashion style and taste, have been showcased at the recent Ukrainian Fashion Week from 9-13 October 2013.
Besides creating a warm Malaysian ambience at the reception with bunga manga, traditional Malay music and an array of Malaysian cuisines were also served. This reception also provided an opportunity for Malaysian community in Kyiv to get-together.
