The Embassy of Malaysia in Kyiv hosted the visit by a group of 38 undergraduate and postgraduate Ukrainian students on 17 November 2015, as part of Malaysia’s Outreach and Public Diplomacy Programme. The visiting students were from different majors namely International Relations, Law, Economics and Journalism from four of Ukraine’s notable universities, the National Aviation University, Taras Shevchenko University, Kyiv National Economic University as well as Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.
The students were keen to learn about Malaysia’s foreign policy and role in international diplomacy. They were interactive during the Embassy’s presentation and had posed questions on subjects such as Malaysia’s position in territorial disputes in the South China Sea, Malaysia’s experience of implementing dual legal system (civil and Islamic laws) and Malaysia’s economic growth strategy.
Such visit programme was a beneficial platform in featuring Malaysia’s role in embracing its Middle Power position as well as projecting Malaysia’s image as a progressive and moderate Islamic country.
