Malaysia is committed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of education with Ukraine through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education. That was the message conveyed by Dato’ Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine during his courtesy call on Her Excellency Liliia Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine in Kyiv on 3 December 2018.
The negotiations to conclude the MoU is in the pipeline and both sides expressed confidence that the MoU will be the catalyst for a more meaningful collaboration in the field of higher education between Malaysia and Ukraine, especially between higher education institutions of the two countries, in areas such as student mobility programme; exchange of teachers and academic staff; exchange of information on best practices, literature and education system; as well as joint research programmes.
Highlighting the advantages of studying in Malaysia namely the affordable tuition fees; reasonable cost of living; and safe and stable environment, Dato’ Raja Reza encouraged more Ukrainian students to choose Malaysia as the destination to further their tertiary education, aside from the traditional preferred destinations in Europe, the United States and Canada.
In addition, Dato’ Raja Reza welcomed Ukraine as the 144th Recipient Country of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP). From now on, Ukrainian officials are able to partake in the various capacity building programmes and technical assistance offered by Malaysia through the MTCP. Dato’ Raja Reza expressed hope that Ukrainian officials will benefit from the knowledge and know-how gained from the courses offered which then may also contribute to Ukraine’s reform efforts particularly in the education sphere.
