On 1 August 2014, Ambassadr of Malaysia to Ukraine Chuah Teong Ban and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin signed a bilateral agreement on the deployment of Malaysian personnel in Ukraine to secure the crash site of the MH17 "Malaysian Airlines" plane.
The signing of agreement is another important step in the bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Ukraine to ensure the investigation of the tragedy will be undertaken in an objective and transparent manner and also to bring all those responsible for downing the MH17 aircraft to justice.
The 90-member Malaysian personnel comprising senior officers, special tactical forces and forensic specialists from the Royal Malaysian Police currently in Ukraine will be deployed to the crash site to protect the crash site and also to examine and collect evidences, wreckage, passengers’ personal belongings and human remains that may still be at the crash site.
The Malaysian personnel would be joining the international mission to investigate the tragedy, along with representatives of Australia and the Netherlands.
