Malaysia is prepared to develop active cooperation with Ukraine in the sphere of defence industry and military cooperation through the commencement of a Joint Committee Meeting on Defence Cooperation said H.E. Raja Dato’ Reza Raja Zaib Shah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine during his courtesy call on Lieutenant General Ihor Pavlovskyi, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine on 25 February 2019 held at the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Malaysia and Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation in 2007 which entered into force on 1 December 2008.
H.E. Ambassador recalled that YB Minister of Defence of Malaysia has extended invitation to his Ukrainian counterpart to attend the biannual Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2019 (LIMA ’19) which will be held in Langkawi from 26 to 30 March 2019. H.E. Ambassador also noted that Ukraine is one of the countries that will have a Pavilion at the forthcoming LIMA to showcase its latest military technology and innovative products in aviation and maritime sectors.
Deputy Minister Pavlovskyi, on his part, stated that Ukraine is interested to enhance military and weapons cooperation with Malaysia that includes, inter alia, supply and refurbishment of aviation equipment; Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV); modern guided missiles; development of robotics system; cybersecurity; and military education. The Deputy Minister also went on to brief H.E. Ambassador on the security situation in Ukraine as well as the modernisation and upgrades made to strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces.
