On 8 November 2018, the Embassy of Malaysia in Kyiv invited local media representatives to a networking session with the Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine, H.E. Dato’ Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah.

H.E. Ambassador addressed a variety of topics of interest pertaining to current events in Malaysia. This includes Malaysia’s political developments, economic performance, national policy on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the growing tourism industry. In addition, H.E. Ambassador updated the media representatives on the state of bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Ukraine which has gained new momentum in recent years. This positive trend is reflected in the uptick in bilateral trade and Ukrainian tourist arrivals in Malaysia as well as more exchange of visits at the official level.

H.E. Ambassador highlighted one emerging issue that has raised concern for Malaysia namely the attempt to discriminate palm oil use in food productions in Ukraine of which H.E. Ambassador stressed could negatively impact bilateral trade and cooperation between Malaysia and Ukraine. In that regard, he sought the cooperation of the media representatives who attended the session to contribute in portraying palm oil in a more positive limelight based on available scientific data and researches to ensure a fair and undistorted decision regarding palm oil and its use in various foods throughout Ukraine.

The media representatives were appreciative of the opportunity to interact closely with H.E. Ambassador at the outset of his tour of duty in Ukraine and build on the relations established between the Embassy of Malaysia and the Ukrainian media. The Embassy hopes to hold such engagement session in the near future, in an effort to build close rapport with the local media.
