In remembrance of the victims of the Malaysia airlines MH17, the Embassy of Malaysia in Ukraine observed the National Mourning Day of Malaysia in a solemn and brief ceremony on 22 August 2014, at the Embassy’s compound. After lowering the Malaysian flag “Jalur Gemilang” at half-mast, Malaysians residing in Ukraine and the Embassy’s staff with their families had almost five minutes of silence in remembrance of the 298 lost souls (one second for one soul). Before the ceremony ends, H.E. Chuah Teong Ban, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine made brief remarks on the occasion.
The Ar-Rahma mosque in Kyiv was also kindly observing the National Mourning Day by conducting a special prayer at the mosque after the weekly Friday prayers to pay the last respect to the Muslim victims that were perished in the fatal accident. All Muslims attending the Friday sermon in Ukraine as well as the Embassy’s representatives have performed the special prayer.
