Holy Ramadan is here and in conjunction with this blessed month, the Embassy of Malaysia in Kyiv participated in the breaking of fast (Iftar) organised by the Religious Administration of Ukrainian Muslims on 23 May 2018.
Guests included Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko, high-ranking government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, media as well as the Muslim community in Kyiv.
The evening was filled with musical renditions of nasheed, recital of verses from the Holy Quran and as well as video presentations on the health benefits of fasting and the history of Muslims in Ukraine.
Muslims in Ukraine have come a long way since the days of religious persecution under the Soviet Union regime. Today, the 2 million Muslims residing in Ukraine are well integrated into the Ukrainian mainstream society, and are able to practice Islam openly.
