Ukraine Celebrated 28th year of Independence

On 24 August 2019, official celebrations of the 28th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence were held in Kyiv. The diplomatic corps in Ukraine has been invited to participate in the event together with Ukrainian dignitaries and officials. Mission was represented by the chargé d'affaires, Ms. Azra Firzadh Asangany.

That morning, President Volodymyr Zelensky and his spouse Mrs. Olena Zelenska paid tribute to the fallen Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, lit a candle and headed for the Maidan Nezalezhnosti-Independence Square. The President announced a one-minute silence in memory of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes. Then, the solemn ceremony of raising the national flag of Ukraine took place accompanied by the Ukrainian hymn performed by a combined choir. The President also presented medals to 30 military personnel and made a speech in which he expressed his hope for restoration of "peace" in Ukraine.

Later that afternoon, the President hosted a ceremonial reception in Mariinskyi Palace, Kyiv. Ms. Azra Firzadh had the opportunity to congratulate President Zelensky on Ukraine’s 28th anniversary of independence and conveyed wishes for Ukraine’s peace, prosperity and happiness.
