At the invitation of Ms. Vlada Prokaeva, Head of International Cooperation at Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Complex, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine, H.E. Chuah Teong Ban visited the national historic-cultural preserve (sanctuary) on 24 July 2012. After warmly welcomed by Ms. Prokaeva and senior officials, H.E. Ambassador Chuah was taken on a short conducted tour of the iconic heritage site which comprised monastery complex, architectural monuments, various ancient cultural museums, holy worship sanctuaries and the majestic bell tower. This heritage site is so well preserved with many original artefacts ranging from religious relics, frescos to ancient architectural designs that no wonder it was voted as one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine on August 21, 2007.
H.E. Ambassador Chuah also had a meeting with the senior management of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Complex to discuss cooperation in areas of mutual interest. As there were many beautiful monumental buildings in this heritage site which are suitable for hosting official events, the management of the complex offered the Embassy of Malaysia the opportunity to use those facilities and buildings. Being frequently visited by many school children on educational tour, the management of the complex is contemplating to include educational programs on international relations in those tours whereby Embassies, including Malaysia, can partake to disseminate information of their home country.
