In conjunction with International Women’s Day on 8 March 2018, we pay tribute to every woman for their indispensable role and contribution in shaping the society. Malaysia indeed recognises the essential role of women in the development of the country and the need to enhance women empowerment.
In this regard, 2018 has been dedicated as the Tahun Memperkasa Wanita 2018 (TMW18). TMW18 is a national initiative, to empower and drive women into the 4th Industrial Revolution with focused preparation within five strategic clusters including, health, safety, economy, culture and education.
TMW18 aspired outcomes:
· Equipping 20,000 women with IR4.0 knowledge and skillsets out of which, 30% will adopt in their businesses and jobs
· Value creation of programs benefitting the women community leveraging on crowdsourcing /crowd funding worth RM100 Million
· 50% increase of women businesses adopting digital strategies and technologies for their business expansion or improvements
· Increase of women’s participation in economic activities by 30%
· 100 impact based initiatives aligned to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) led by women
· 30% increase in consolidated efforts by private and public sectors in creating awareness and improving women physical and mental fitness.
· 30% increase of women advocates and awareness agents to promote security and safety that leveraging on technology and social media.
As part of the campaign, three prominent women were identified as inspiration for others of their gender. These were businesswoman Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor; e-commerce entrepreneur and owner of Fashion Valet, Vivy Yusof; and Selangor Princess Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah who known for her social work and activism.
