On 20-21 August 2020, H.E. Raja Dato’ Reza Raja Zaib Shah, Ambassador of Malaysia to Ukraine participated in a familiarisation visit to the Kherson Oblast (region) organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for ambassadors accredited to Ukraine.
On the first day, the ambassadors visited St. Catherine’s Cathedral in which famous Russian military leader, statesman and favourite of Catherine the Great, Prince Potemkin was buried. Later they toured Prince Trubetskoy winery established in the late 19th century. The next day they visited Askania-Nova, a biosphere reserve, the largest protected steppe in Europe and one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine. At the end of the day, the ambassadors made a visit to Chumak, one of the biggest food processing companies in Ukraine situated in Kakhovka.
The ambassadors received a pleasant surprise on 20 August 2020 when President Volodymyr Zelensky who was on a one day visit to Kherson invited them to a cocktail. The president briefed the ambassadors that Kherson offers many investment opportunities and projects including in the areas of tourism, infrastructure, agriculture and energy. Present also at the cocktail were Yuriy Husiev, Governor of the Kherson Oblast, as well as Andriy Yermak, Head of the Presidential Administration.
Kherson located 500 kilometers to the southern of Kyiv is the only region in Ukraine that has access to two seas –the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and is also home to the largest sand desert in Europe, the longest sand spit in the world and the largest uninhabited island in Europe.
