UPDATES ON MALAYSIA TRAVEL ADVISORY

 

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF 14-DAY QUARANTINE INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRAVELERS FROM COUNTRIES WITH VARIANT TRANSMISSION OF CONCERN IN THE COMMUNITY

 
The health authorities in Malaysia have discovered three (3) Variants of Concern (VC) SARS-Cov-2, namely B..351 (South Africa), B.1.17 (United Kingdom), and B.1.1.28. P1 (Brazil) in certain areas/territories in Malaysia.   Accordingly, travelers arriving from these countries which including United States of America have been instructed to undergo a 14-day quarantine.

 

3. The following is further information and the latest developments as of May 3, 2021 regarding the implementation of 14-day quarantine for travelers from countries involved with the SAR-CoV-2 Variant of Concern (VOC) community:

i. The 14 -day quarantine directive does not apply to those arriving from Hong Kong and Macau;

ii. Travelers transiting in those countries do not have to undergo a 14-day quarantine if they do not leave the airport and the transit period does not exceed 8 hours;

iii. Currently, the 14 -day quarantine directive does not involve “business traveler” category travelers who use MITI/ MIDA special route tracks;

iv. Travelers arriving from those countries must undergo COVID-19 screening within 3 days (72 hours) before leaving for Malaysia with a negative COVID-19 report; and

v. The list of these countries was updated on 2 May 2021, involving 52 countries as on the following website:http://covid-19.moh.gov.my/garis-panduan/gp-umum-covid19/senarai-negara-penularan-variant-of-concern-voc.
