The arrival of Syawal 1433 Hijrah which fell on Sunday, 19 August 2012 was greeted with the Aidilfitri Takbir and Prayer. In Los Angeles, the Malaysian community in Southern California gathered at the El-Dorado Park Community Hall in Long Beach, California. After the prayer, guests were invited to a reception which was co-hosted by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Los Angeles and the Malaysia Islamic Foundation of North America (MIFNA).
More than 200 Malaysians and friends of Malaysia in and around Los Angeles were treated with Malaysia traditional Hari Raya delicacies such as Rendang and Nasi Impit, Lodeh, Mee Hoon, Sambal Udang and various Malaysian kueh-raya. Despite being far away from home, everybody enjoyed the gathering in a festive and joyous mood.
