Consul General of Malaysia in Los Angeles, Mr. Nekmat Ismail attended the final round of the 17th World Championships of Performing Arts 2013 held in Los Angeles, California on Friday, 19 July 2013.
Contestants from over 40 countries including Malaysia participated in the event. Malaysia team consisted of seven participants. The eight days ‘Olympic style’ event (12-19 July 2013) ended with Malaysia won 11 gold medals, 8 silver and 9 bronze. During the opening ceremony, Malaysia also won second place in the Best National Costume category.
Malaysia has been participating in WCOPA since 1997, in the various categories of competition such as singing, acting, dancing, modeling, instrumental and variety acts. The event had certainly been an invaluable learning experience and exposure for all the young Malaysian contestants.
