BEACON SCHOOL FAIR 2007, NEW YORK.

The Consulate participated in the Beacon’s School Fair last weekend. This was an annual event organized by the Parent’s Association to help raise fund for the school’s extra-curriculum activities.  More than 400 people including invited guests were at the fair.

2.      Consistent with the spirit of the MalaysiaKitchen program, our participation was aimed to promote Malaysia and Malaysian agricultural products through food and ingredients.  Two Malaysian restaurants in New York contributed finger food for samplings while some were homemade.  There were other vacuum-packed pre-cooked Malaysian foodstuffs contributed by the importer of MyTasteOfAsia.  Tourism Malaysia contributed about 100 goodie bags which contain information materials about Malaysia.  Also in the goodie bags were a pamphlet promoting several travel packages to Malaysia by Malaysia Airlines.

3.      It was quite heartening that the President of the Beacons’ School Parents Association acknowledged Malaysia’s contribution to the fair.  In her introduction, she hoped that our information materials and products would extend and enhance the positive impression of Malaysia that everyone had when first approaching our table and trying our dishes.  Undeniably, the Malaysian table was located strategically at the center which featured prominently as guests entered the hall.

4.      I believe through this close collaboration among the home based agencies and private sector in New York we could further leave a significant impact in our efforts to promote Malaysia.  Clearly, many of those who were present at the fair especially parents get their first hand knowledge about Malaysia and its cuisine.
