The Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN, with the help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage, Malaysia, hosted the Malaysian Food Festival at the Delegates Dining Room of the UN from 17 February – 2 March 2009. In conjunction with the Food Festival, the Consulate General of Malaysia, New York helped to organize a cultural performance by the cultural troupe from Istana Budaya, Malaysia on 18 February, 2009, the date of launching ceremony of the Festival.

 Around 300 people from different background attended the event. The guests were served with Malaysian cuisines of Johor and Negeri Sembilan States. The food was prepared by Celebrity Chefs from Malaysia such as, Chef Ismail Ahmad and Chef Florence Tan.

On February 19, the troupe performed at The United Nations International School, where they showcased numerous dances such as: Cinta Sayang/Ayam Didiek Dance, Sarawak Dance and Joget Malaysia Dance.
