COVID-19 ALERT
ADVISORY FOR MALAYSIAN STUDENTS IN THE U.S. IN VIEW OF THE OUTBREAK OF COVID-19
- The Embassy of Malaysia in Washington D.C. is closely monitoring the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As the situation continues to change rapidly, our priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of Malaysian students.
- The Embassy urges all Malaysian students to follow community mitigation efforts that have been announced by their respective universities and state officials to limit the spread of COVID-19. - If you are having problems securing accommodation due to decisions by your respective universities to empty dormitories, please contact the Housing/Accommodation Unit of your respective universities directly to discuss relocation. Students may also contact the National Assembly of Malaysian Students in America (NAMSA) or Education Malaysia Washington D.C. to discuss alternatives. - Please refrain from non-essential travel for you or your family members in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. Please take note that visiting family members may face unpredictable circumstances, travel restrictions, challenges in returning home or accessing health care while abroad. - Take extra precaution in view of increasing criminal activities that seek to take advantage of the crisis. These include scams asking for donations/medical funding appeals; “phishing” emails on COVID-19 containing malicious attachments/links that may install malware (viruses, spyware or ransomware) on your device; and non-delivery scams for essential supplies such as hand sanitizers and face masks.
