The Embassy of Malaysia hosted a Chinese New Year celebration for the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia on 11 February 2011.The Guest of Honour was Mr. Joseph Yoon, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs, U.S. Department of State. The reception was preceded by the Malaysia-America Society (MAS) Annual General Meeting (AGM). During his short address to the MAS AGM, Mr. Yoon emphasized the importance of Malaysia-U.S. relations, highlighting the achievements made in bilateral ties in 2010 as well as what was expected in 2011. TYT Dato’ Sri Dr. Jamaludin Jarjis, Ambassador of Malaysia to the U.S., in addressing the guests at the Chinese New Year reception, welcomed all guests to the reception and touched on the significance of the Year of the Rabbit. The guests were feted with the traditional ritual of mixing the Chinese yee sang delicacy, the lighting of firecrackers as well as sumptuous Malaysian cuisine.
