Malaysian Embassy In Washington Bridges Diplomatic Divide Via Food And Culture
Washingtonians lucky to be invited to the party were treated to a sumptuous array of
"Malaysia: The Truly Asian Kitchen", hosted by the Charge d'Affaires, Ilango Karuppannan and his wife, Nirmala, began with the thunderous beat of the kompang by embassy staff and family members, followed by a cultural performance by 'Sutera Malaysia'.
Washingtonians who turned up were not disappointed as they were entertained to a grand feast of Malaysian food by renowned Malaysian-owned restaurants in the nation's capital -- Kopitiam Restaurant, Penang Bethesda Restaurant, Spices, and Banana Leaves Restaurant.
It was not only the food. Tourism
Embassy staff and their spouses, ARMED with their warm smiles and gracious hospitality, helped out at the various food stalls, making it a memorable event for Washingtonians in the summer.
This is the second time that the embassy hosted such an event.
