30 APRIL 2021 - UPDATED TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS AND ENTRY REQUIREMENTS IN RESPONSE TO THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 IN MALAYSIA

As of 30 April 2021, the health authorities in Malaysia have discovered three (3) Variants of Concern (VOC) of SARS-Cov-2, namely B.1.351 (South Africa), B.1.17 (United Kingdom), and B.1.1.28, P1 (Brazil), in certain areas/territories in Malaysia. These 3 variants also have been identified and reported in the following countries:

In this respect, the Government of Malaysia has updated its travel restrictions and entry requirements for all international travelers, including those from the U.S., as follows:

1. Effective 1 May 2021, all international travelers (Malaysian and non-Malaysian) are no longer required to submit the Letter of Undertaking and Indemnity (LoU) and apply for the Notice of Travel to enter Malaysia;

2. Nonetheless, all non-Malaysian travelers are still required to obtain an entry approval from the Immigration Department of Malaysia (MyTravelPass-MTP) via https://mtp.imi.gov.my/myTravelPass/main;

3. For health screening purposes, all international travelers are required to register through MySejahtera application before entering Malaysia. The application can be downloaded at https://mysejahtera.malaysia.gov.my;

4. All travelers from the U.S are required to undergo 14-day quarantine. For quarantine arrangements, all international travelers are encouraged to register and pay in advance through MySafeTravel application at https://safetravel.myeg.com.my/. Payments for screening tests and qurantine charges can be made through the same application;

5. All international travelers are also required to present negative COVID-19 test results, taken 72 hours before departure to Malaysia. Travelers will be required to undertake another COVID-19 screening test upon arrival in Malaysia; and

6. All international travelers from the U.S. are required to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine at any government-designated quarantine centers;

The Ministry of Health Malaysia, in collaboration with the National Health Institute (NHI) and other relevant agencies, will, from time to time, update the list of countries with the Variant of Concern (VOC) SARS-Cov-2.
