10TH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF NATIONAL CUISINES, CULTURES AND TRADITIONS, TASHKENT, REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN - 12TH MAY 2012

 The Embassy of Malaysia in Tashkent,  Republic of Uzbekistan took p art  in  the “10th International Festival of National Cuisines, Vultures and Traditions” which  was  organized  by the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the  Republic of Uzbekistan for  the  foreign  diplomatic missions accredited in the country.  

 
2.  The festival, which took place on a beautiful sunny spring day on Saturday, 12th May 2012, brought together the representatives of all the foreign diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Uzbekistan to celebrate the richness of the each participating country’s cuisine, culture and traditions. This year more than 30 diplomatic missions in Tashkent took active part in the festival by opening their booths showcasing sample dishes of each country’s national cuisines.
 
3.  The participating missions also sold their samples products of their traditional cuisines i.e. cakes, cookies, delicious dishes and others, while all the earnings collected were donated to the special charitable fund to be distributed among orphanages and other centers for disabled children in Tashkent.
 
4.  The national cuisines bazaar was also accompanies by the concert programme performed by Uzbek singers, cultural troupes, various national cultural centers based in Tashkent and cultural troupes specially arranged by foreign diplomatic missions to represent their countries.
 
5.  One of the participant’s remarks seems to have captured the essence and mood of this festival: “… participation in this festival is a unique experience for everybody. People can familiarize themselves with the traditions and national cuisines of many countries just by walking through the various colorfully decorated booths allocated to participating countries. It is almost like making a quick trip around the world just in a few minutes”.
 
6.  Malaysia’s booth was also decorated very colorfully displaying various posters showing the beauty of Malaysian nature, richness and diversity of its culture and people. Meanwhile, the family members of the officers of the Embassy and other Malaysian expatriate families mostly working with PETRONAS representative office in Tashkent in the spirit of “1Malaysia Concept” made a good effort to cook and specially prepare for this festive occasion various Malaysian dishes and sweets in order to promote Malaysian national cuisine among local people and representatives of various foreign diplomatic missions. Malaysian Tourism brochures promoting Malaysia as top tourist destination in the world were also distributed to interested visitors.
