The Embassy of Malaysia in Tashkent has hosted the 54th Malaysia National Day reception at Tashkent Palace Hotel on 12th September, 2011.
2. The reception was attended with about 250 guests comprises of Uzbekistan Deputy Prime Minister, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, senior officials, academicians, members of Chamber of Commerce, member of Parliaments, businessmen, culture activists and members of the MTCP’s alumni. The reception were also attended by foreign Ambassadors, international organizations and their spouses based in Tashkent. H.E. Mr. Abdullah Aripov, Deputy Prime Minister of Republic of Uzbekistan who representing the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the function and play as a special guess of honor.
3. In Ambassador Abdul Aziz Harun’s speech during the function, he highlighted that Malaysia and Uzbekistan have many similarity whether in terms of size of the country, date of Independence (i.e. 31st August), populations about 28 million and also social structure of the country as multi ethnic, multi religious, multi language but they live in peace and harmony.
4. Ambassador Abdul Aziz also in the speech drew the attention of the audience that Malaysia has transform its economic USD 200 GDP per capita in 1957 when gained independence to about USD 7,500 GDP per capita in 2011 which is equivalent to USD 15,200 based on current purchasing power parity.
5. The Malaysian government is currently actively pursuing its “Vision 2020” to transform Malaysia from middle income bracketed country into high income bracketed country by implementing several new economic initiatives such as the “National Transformation Programme (NTP) and “Economic Transformation Programme” (ETP) which was introduced in 2010. Ambassador Abdul Aziz believes that with well designed of NTP and ETP by the government plus with the peoples dedication and hard working, Malaysia will be able to transform its economy to become a developed country by 2020.
6. With regards to Malaysia-Uzbekistan bilateral relations, Ambassador Abdul Aziz in his speech drew the attention of the guests that Malaysia-Uzbekistan bilateral relations has been developing progressively since its inception in 1992. The bilateral relations between the two countries have been well established in every fields i.e. politic, economic, trade, investment, higher education, tourism, culture and even peoples to peoples contact. Although Malaysia-Uzbekistan trade are still small but it has the potential to be developed in the future.
7. Based on the response and the attendances of Uzbekistan Minister, senior officials, member of parliament, academician, businessmen and other segment of social structure of Uzbekistan and foreign diplomats based in Tashkent to our 54th National Day reception, no doubt that Malaysia is highly respected by locals and foreign diplomats here in Uzbekistan. Some of local VIPs, Asia and EU’s Ambassadors congratulated and commented Malawakil Tashkent on the successful of hosting our recent National Day reception and considers it at least at par with other developed countries in terms of decoration, food presentations and also guests and local VIPs attended the event.
