Malaysia promoted as a tourism and education center at the UN Day celebrations in Tashkent, Uzbekistan
The Embassy of Malaysia in the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the annual UN Day held at the Tashkent International School (TIS) on Saturday, 20th October 2012.
More than 20 foreign diplomatic missions based in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, joined TIS students in celebrating the establishment of the United Nations which falls on 24th October every year.
All participating diplomatic missions were each allocated a room where they were expected to exhibit general information about their country in the form of maps, brochures, booklets, magazines, posters, video material and others.
The Malaysian Embassy’s displayed various posters depicting world famous landmarks in Malaysia such as PETRONAS twin towers and others. Tourism Malaysia video trailer entitled “Malaysia Truly Asia” was also screened to the visitors.
In the spirit of public-private partnership, the Embassy also invited “Education Voyage Company” based in Tashkent, which specializes in sending Uzbek students to study in Malaysian universities, to exhibit and hand out various Malaysian universities’ brochures to the visitors.
In order to promote greater awareness of Malaysia among the visitors of the event the Embassy also organized “Intellectual Quiz: Who knows Malaysia better” with the winners being awarded with special prizes.
Living up to the reputation as a “gastronomical paradise”, our Malaysian home-based staff also offered various Malaysian cookies to the visitors.
Overall, the UN Day celebrations held at Tashkent International School offered a good opportunity to promote Malaysia as an active member of the international community, as a destination of choice for foreign tourists and as a center of educational excellence for those who want to get world class education at competitive rates.
It was also a good occasion for all Malaysian expatriates living in Tashkent to gather in one place and celebrate together. Currently, there are around 50 Malaysian expatriates and family members in Tashkent while 10 Malaysian students are studying at Tashkent International School.
