Malaysia specialized marketing mission for oil and gas to Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan, 17-21 November 2011

MATRADE Head Quarters in cooperation with the Embassy of Malaysia in Tashkent has organized a Specialized Marketing Mission for Malaysian Oil and Gas sector companies to Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan from 17th to 21st November 2011. The Specialized Marketing Mission was part of the MATRADE marketing mission to two Central Asian countries, namely to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan recently. Before the visit to Uzbekistan, the MATRADE specialized marketing mission delegation visited Turkmenistan for the same purpose from 12th to 17th November 2011.
2. This year specialized marketing mission for oil and gas sector to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan pursued the following objectives:
i) To further explore business opportunities for collaboration between Malaysia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan companies in the oil and gas services sector;
ii) To create greater awareness and visibility among the business community and the local public on Malaysia’s capabilities and expertise in providing world-class oil and gas services;
iii) To establish useful business contacts and network with oil and gas service providers including government agencies and associations related to the sector; and
iv) To further strengthen the existing business linkages between Malaysia, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
3. During the Specialized Marketing Mission to Uzbekistan, 15 representatives of the respective 6 Malaysian companies were took part in the mission which are as follows:
i) Dialog Systems SND BHD;
ii) Integrated Well Services SND BHD;
iii) Scomi Oil Tools LTD;
iv) PU Profile SND BHD;
v) Solar Alert SND BHD; and
vi) Trisystems Engineering SND BHD.
4. During the stay of the members of the mission in Tashkent, the group had the opportunity to meet with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan in charge of oil and gas sector H.E. Mr. Ibragimov G’ulomjon Inamovich and also visited the Head Quarters of the “Uzbekneftegas” National Oil and Gas Company of Uzbekistan.
5. The Mission members also met with the local Uzbek business leaders and entrepreneurs who are involved in the oil and gas industry of Uzbekistan in a Business Forum. The Business Forum took place at Radisson SAS hotel in Tashkent on 18th November 2011. During the Business Forum the Malaysian oil and gas companies had in total more than 40 business meetings with their Uzbek counterparts. As a result of the Mission, two MoUs between Malaysian companies and their Uzbek counterparts were being negotiated for the purpose of formalization in the future.
6. In general, the Malaysian Specialized Marketing Mission for Malaysian oil and gas sector companies to Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan which was jointly organized by MATRADE and the Embassy of Malaysia in Tashkent has met its objectives, especially in promoting Malaysian oil and gas exploration and production equipment as well as consultancy services to the international and local companies/enterprises which are involved in the oil and gas industry in Uzbekistan.
7. The success of the Malaysia Company, namely, KNM International in winning the open tender with a total value of USD 72 million to supply oil gas sector related equipment to Russian Oil and Gas Company Lukoil’s subsidiary in Uzbekistan in May 2011 has become a major breakthrough in penetrating selling oil and gas equipment and services including consultancy to oil and gas companies operating in Uzbekistan.
8. The Embassy hopes the recent MATRADE Specialized Marketing Mission for Oil and Gas to Uzbekistan from 17th to 21st November 2011 will further encourage more Malaysian companies to venture into Uzbekistan’s oil and gas industry in the future.
