University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) delegation makes an educational trip to Uzbekistan from 1^st to 7^th December 2009

A 42 member UniMAP delegation headed by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Kamaruddin Hussin, the Vice-Chancellor of the UniMAP, made an educational trip to Uzbekistan on 1-7^th December 2009. This is the second time UniMAP delegation visits Uzbekistan in 2009, previously the UniMAP delegation headed by His Royal Highness Syed Faizuddin Ibni Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, the Regent of the Perlis who is also the Chancellor of the UniMAP, visited Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic from 27^th January to 2^nd February 2009 with familiarization visits and for signing MoUs on cooperation in the field of higher education with a number of local universities in both Central Asian countries. This time the UniMAP delegation consists of not only professors and lecturers but also 28 student leaders of the university visited Uzbekistan.

 The UniMAP educational trip to Uzbekistan is the latest highlight of the cooperation in the field of higher education between the governments of Malaysia and Uzbekistan. Earlier on the two governments have also signed an intergovernmental MoU on the cooperation in the field of higher education between the two countries during the official visit of H.E. Abdullah Hj. Ahmad Badawi, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, to Uzbekistan in November 2008. In this regards, the UniMAP visit to Uzbekistan is also as a follow-up to the agreement reached between the two countries to enhance the cooperation in the field of higher education.

During their educational trip to Uzbekistan, UniMAP delegation visited ancient historical cities of Bukhara and Samarkand which previously played an important role in the development of Islamic civilization and science during the “Great Silk Road” era. As part of their educational trip the UniMAP delegation also visited Tashkent State Technical University and Tashkent State Automobile and Road Construction Institute and signed an MoU with the latter. While familiarizing themselves with Uzbek universities, the UniMAP students together with Uzbek students performed joint cultural programmes and played friendly Futsal matches with their counterpart in Uzbekistan. Overall, the UniMAP educational trip to Uzbekistan has been successful in establishing close cooperation between the two countries in the field of higher education and at the same time promoted better understanding and close people to people contacts between the Malaysian and Uzbek professors/lecturers and students by generating a sense of closeness in the spirit of friendship and brotherhood.

H.E. Abdul Aziz Harun, Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of Uzbekistan, accompanied the UniMAP delegation during their visits to Uzbek Universities and also hosted a welcome lunch at his official residence in Tashkent for the members of the UniMAP delegation on 6^th December 2009.
