MALAYSIA EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT ON THE US ANNOUNCEMENT ON RECOGNISING JERUSALEM AS THE CAPITAL OF ISRAEL
On 6 December 2017, United States (US) announced her recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will relocate her embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Upon the US Embassy’s request, Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Dean Thompson, met with Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Seri Ramlan Ibrahim, today at 3.00 p.m. to inform about the announcement.
During the meeting, the Secretary General expressed the Malaysian Government’s view that the US’ decision has inflamed Muslims sentiments and does not contribute towards the security and stability of the region. He added that it would be detrimental to the efforts of the international community in finding a lasting solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and would feed further into radical narratives.
The Secretary General reiterated that Malaysia will continue to work closely with all partners in finding just and lasting solution to the conflict.
