LXXXVII Executive Committee of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC) in Mendoza, Argentina.

Malaysian delegation led by Dato Sri Azharudin A. Rahman, Director General of Department of Civil Aviaton attended the LXXXVII Executive Committee of the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission (LACAC) in lobbying effort to   country’s candidature for the member of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Under Part III for the 2016-2019 term. The elections will be held during the 39th Session of the ICAO General Assembly in Montreal from 27 September until 7 October 2016.

 
2.         ICAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport. The Council is a permanent body of the Organization responsible to the Assembly. The Council is composed of 36 Member States elected by the Assembly for every three-year term. Malaysia became a member of ICAO in 1958 and was elected for the first time into the council in 2007. Malaysia has been in the Council for the last three terms since 2007.
 
3.         Being a member of the Council gives Malaysia the right and opportunity to facilitate the adoption of standards and recommended practices concerning air navigation the infrastructure flight inspections prevention of unlawful interference and facilitation of border-crossing procedures for international civil aviation.
