BUENOS AIRES: Malaysia had a field day in the Inaugural ASEAN 5 Bowling Tournament by winning all three titles of the tournament held on Saturday, 16 September 2017 at Bowling and Co in Buenos Aires. The first ever bowling tournament initiated and organised by Embassy of Malaysia, saw the participation of all 5 ASEAN countries missions i.e. Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. A total of 9 teams participated for team event consists of a mix team of 3 men and 2 women and for both men’s and women’s individuals category. The ASEAN Ambassadors headed their respective teams for the challenge.
After battling for more than two hours in two rounds of game, Malaysia - Malayan Tigers (A) captained by HE. Ambassador Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak clinched the team event title by accumulating 1200 pins with Malaysia - Malayan Tigers (B) at the second spot with 1124 pins, followed by Indonesia (1044 pins), the Philippines (929 pins) and Thailand (A) – (878 pins). The Malaysian also took the women’s and men’s individual titles for Highest Score and Highest Pins Fall with Datin Aniza Khalid, spouse of the Ambassador of Malaysia emerged Champion in the Women category, while Mr. Estaban from Malaysia clinched the Champion in the Men category. To make it a complete Malaysian victory, the runners-up titles for Women’s Highest Score and Highest Pins Fall also went to Malaysian i.e. Ms. Aisyah Sara Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi, while Ms. Azra Safiya Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi won third place in the Women Highest Pins Fall category with Mrs. Khadijah, Third Place in Highest Score and Mr. Sharizan took Third Place in the Men Highest Score category. Thailand were Runner-Up in Men Highest Score with Indonesia securing Third Place in the same category.
During the award giving ceremony, H.E. Ambassador of Malaysia recorded his thanks and appreciation to all his ASEAN colleagues and families who had participated in the true spirit of sportsmanship and made the event a thrilling and memorable one. He stated that the sports event will further promote cooperation, understanding and relations among countries of ASEAN in Buenos Aires. The organising of the event also portrays ASEAN friendship and solidarity with Argentina and is a soft diplomacy approach. The ASEAN Ambassadors took turn to present the prizes to the winners.
