| ON THE OCCASION IN COMMEMORATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS
BETWEEN
MALAYSIA AND ARGENTINA |
Today marked the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-Argentina diplomatic relations. Since then, bilateral relations between both countries remain close and cordial.
Malaysia and Argentina established diplomatic relations on 7 June 1967. The Embassy of Malaysia in Buenos Aires was established in 1989 and the Embassy of Argentina in Kuala Lumpur was established in 1983.
Since 1967, relations between Malaysia and Argentina continue to enjoy steady progress with the substantial growth in bilateral and political relations, economic cooperation and the people-to-people relations.
As of today, Malaysia has six bilateral agreements and memorandum of understanding covering, trade, investment, finance, scientific cooperation, standardization and consular affairs. These agreements have proven to be a useful tool in paving the way for a meaningful and substantive interaction and cooperation between both countries for now and future.
Argentina is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner in Latin America. Total bilateral trade between Malaysia and Argentina was valued at USD1.22 billion in 2016. Malaysia is looking forward to increase this volume with more new trades and investments for both sides. To facilitate this, the Embassy of Malaysia in Buenos Aires is working closely with Argentinian counterpart to establish the Malaysia-Argentina Business Council by end of the year. This Business Council would be the catalyst for future trade and investment of both countries.
