Wisma Putra congratulates the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on the joyous occasion of its 196th Independence Day. Malaysia and Uruguay established diplomatic relations in 1988. The Uruguay Embassy in Kuala Lumpur was opened in 1994 while the Malaysia Ambassador to Argentina is concurrently accredited to Uruguay
