On 30 August 2018, all Home-Based Staff, Defence personnel and families gathered at the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra to commemorate the 61stAnniversary of Hari Merdeka. A flag raising was followed by the singing of the national anthem, Negaraku. With the theme, “Love Our Malaysia”, a short-video called Harapan Merdeka was presented to remind us on the need for love, kindness and compassion to our beloved nation.
The kids were entertained with interesting activities such as a colouring and essay competitions as well as a quiz to reinforce the spirit and significance of Merdeka. At the end of the programme, patriotic songs such as Tanggal 31, Jalur Gemilang and Keranamu Malaysia were sung by the attendees. The reading of Rukun Negara was led by Adik Aishah Rosman.
