WORK PERMIT
A person wishing to work in Malaysia cannot apply for a work permit. Their prospective employer must apply on their behalf for permission to employ them, providing details of their experience, nationality, passport . If approved, the Immigration Department will issue a letter advising the employer that the person can be employed usually for a period of up to two years . The employer then writes to the prospective employee advising him/her that the application has been approved. The person then can arrive in Malaysia and have his/her passport endorsed with the work permit.
The permission to work is tied to a particular job. It is not a right to work generally in Malaysia. Once the job is completed the permit lapses.
The spouse and dependents of the applicant enjoy the same rights to reside and enter and leave Malaysia as the successful applicant. For more information, visit www.imi.gov.my
