The ASEAN-Australia Youth Summit 2013 was held last week on Saturday, 24th August at the North Melbourne Town Hall. The event was held for the second time since its inception in 2012 and was organised by ASEAN Student’s Council Australia (ASCA) which comprised of the Student Associations from Malaysian Students’ Council of Australia (MASCA), Indonesian Students Association of Australia (PPIA), Melbourne Overseas Vietnamese Student Association (MOVSA), Singaporeans of Victoria (SOV), and the Thai Students Association of Victoria (TSV). The said event saw the attendance of the Australian Ambassador-designate to ASEAN, H.E Simon Merrifield, H.E Ambassador Bagas Hapsoro, Consul General Dato Dr Rameez and Councillor of Melbourne’s Mayor Office Ken Ong. The event commenced from 8.30 am and ended at 5pm. There was also a presentation on the ASEAN-Australia regional context, challenges and future prospects by Professor Joseph Camilleri from La Trobe University. More than 200 students from ASEAN nations residing in Melbourne attended the event.
