Aussies keen to make Malaysia regional hub for companies

MELBOURNE: There is growing interest among Australiancompanies to use Malaysia as a regional hub and gateway to Asia, theVictorian president of the Australia Malaysia Business Council (AMBC), JoePerri said.

He said since the Malaysia Australia Free Trade Agreement came into effectin January this year, there was an immense level of interest in doing businessin Malaysia and the region.    

"What we are seeing as a business council, is, Australian companies doingtheir homework and research.    

"They want to take advantage of the opportunities and incentives of'Australia in the Asian' strategy promoted by the Australian government," headded.    

Perri told an AMBC lunch hosted by leading accounting firm Pitcher Partners,that successful companies were those that had a fully integrated approachwhen venturing overseas.    

He said AMBC had the expertise and experience to help Australian companies in research and understanding of the Malaysia market and beyond.    

Perri said the newly compiled AMBC Members Business Directory containedvaluable information on companies and businesses already established inMalaysia.    

He also said the Malaysian Consul General here, Dr Mohd Rameez Yahaya, hadworked hard to build links with the Australian business community.    

Mohd Rameez, who briefed the guests on the Malaysian General Election (GE13)results, said with the return to power of the government led by Prime MinisterDatuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, business would proceed with added confidence in the country.
