AMBC-Victoria and Maddocks Lawyer joint hosted a lunch yesterday (Tuesday, 17 December 2013 from 11.45 till 2 pm) in welcoming H.E Rod Smith, the Australian High Commissioner designate to Malaysia. On 26 November 2013, Australian Foreign Minister Hon Julie Bishop made an announcement that Mr. Rod Smith will replace H.E Miles Kupa as the new Australia’s High Commissioner to Malaysia in January 2014. Rod Smith is a senior career diplomatic officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He had also served as Ambassador to the Philippines.

Malaysia is Australia's third largest trading partner in ASEAN and our ninth largest partner overall. In 2012, two-way goods and services trade was worth $17.7 billion. The Malaysia-Australia Free Trade Agreement, which came into effect January this year, is a significant milestone and a catalyst for expanding the trade and investment relationship.
