MELBOURNE: There is no report of Malaysians being injured in Tuesday night's earthquake that rocked the state of Victoria, said Malaysian consul-general Mohd Rameez Yahaya.
The tremor, the biggest in Victoria in 30 years, was recorded at 5.3 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake, which struck at 8.53pm and lasted about 30 seconds, was 16km southwest of Moe. It was also felt across Melbourne.
“So far, I have not heard from any Malaysian being affected by the earthquake,” said Rameez.
He said Malaysia's High Commissioner to Australia Datuk Salman Ahmad contacted him early Wednesday morning, to inquire about the welfare of Malaysians, especially students in Victoria.
“Generally, I think there was very little concern here about the earthquake,” added Rameez. - Bernama
