The Governor of Victoria hosted an official reception at Government House, Melbourne this morning (Wednesday, 19/3/2014) to welcome international students who are studying in the state of Victoria. The reception which commenced at 8.30 am ended at about 11 am and saw the attendance of more than 300 international students mainly from the secondary schools in Melbourne and Victoria. The event started with H.E Governor Alex Chernov giving his welcoming address and informing the attendees that at present there are about 5000 international students in the secondary schools and colleges in Melbourne, Victoria. Soon after the Hon Martin Dixon, Minister of Education of Victoria gave his speech and welcomed the international students expressing his hope that they integrate quickly into the environment in Melbourne. Only a few members of the Consular Corps were invited i.e. Japan, China, Malaysia and Thailand, where most of the secondary/college international students are from.
